Tanya Shylock

Founder

Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, it seemed only natural for Tanya to begin working in the music business, filling many positions and wearing many hats since 1996.  She was a vocalist and songwriter for a nationally touring band from 1999 to 2007, playing upwards of 200 shows a year; she has filled many backstage/management positions in venues of varying size including her role as Back of House Manager for a 10,000 capacity outdoor Amphitheatre, and Director of Artist Relations for a number of large outdoor music festivals; she has been a Tour Manager for many acts including A-List artists, putting her well-honed skills for team leadership, thoughtful communication, and organization to good use; and she has been a part of Denver’s House of Rock Summer Camp programs at Swallow Hill Music as a vocal instructor, helping to teach kids and teens how to perform as a rock ensemble, sharing with them her passion for performance.

She has personally witnessed the power of music and community, seeing a group of fans and musicians join together to put on a highly successful and impactful two-city, two-weekend concert event for her former husband and bandmate who was undergoing treatment for cancer, and subsequently diagnosed cancer-free. This experience was the catalyst for choosing to dedicate her life’s focus to bringing music and community together for healing and well being.  Since moving to Denver, Colorado in November of 2012, Tanya has become increasingly driven to create a charitable mission of healing through music, and is committed to combining her experience as a leader, her gifts as a musician, and her love of people to make a lasting impact on the all-too-often misunderstood, or even forgotten members of our community.

Mindful Music, Inc. is the manifestation of this vision.

Chad "Chadzilla"
Johnson

Originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, Chad was born into a very musical family. His mother was an accomplished pianist and organist at the churches where his father directed choirs and musical productions.  He started singing at the age of three, and playing piano and taking drum lessons at age seven.  His early life was centered around music: elementary school band, middle school jazz band, pit orchestras, Top 40 bands with his brother, Michael (a professor at Berklee College of Music), various religious productions, and playing the lead role in an opera at age eleven. Since 1992, Chad has been devoted to studying, performing, and teaching music in the Rocky Mountain region.  He is passionate about the effects of music on the heart and soul of the individual and the community.  He has a full roster of students for private and group lessons, and is on staff at Swallow Hill Music Association where he created the House Of Rock program, giving both adults and young people the opportunity to be in a band, learning and performing many styles of music.  He was involved in the Art For Life program at Children’s Hospital Colorado and teaches music to many special needs students.

He is a founding member of Istari World Percussion, a group that shares the history, power, and enjoyment of drumming while performing to kids of all ages in schools throughout the state and at Children’s Hospital.  Aside from his busy teaching schedule, Chad is an active member of the Colorado music community, playing drums in various bands throughout the Denver area and beyond.
